"Salvation" By Langston Hughes - Post #2

I liked all the stories but in my opinion this is the story with the greatest message. “Salvation” by Langston Hughes is an example of what many people do to make others happy which cause their own happiness and guilt. Langston was an innocent young boy who really believed what his aunt said that after he was saved he would see a light and Jesus would come into his life. She also mentions that you could see and hear and feel Jesus in your soul. The poor boy really thought he would see Jesus and sat in chair waiting and waiting and nothing would happen. The kid next to him got bored of waiting and lie and got up. He was there alone while people were praying for him to see Jesus but nothing would happen. Langston got tried of waiting and he too lied. That night he was crying because he felt guilty for lying and getting up without really seeing Jesus.

In a way everyone in the church was pressuring him to stand up and see Jesus already and as time passed they were all getting very impatient and he decision to just stand up and go to make everyone happy. I know how he felt but it wasn’t his fault that he didn’t see Jesus and he should have just been honest and told his aunt the truth. It is not a crime and you won’t get in trouble for not seeing Jesus. Everyone in this world has their own personality and beliefs. Some people sometimes lie to make other happy while that is making the problem worse. For example, the aunt will sooner or later find out and will feel worse because Langston was not honest and lie to her and secondly, Langston will feel guilty for lying about something he didn’t see.

I hate when someone lies because it doesn’t only make the problem worse but also cause more damage like losing trust for that person and so much more. This story teaches us a lesson to always be honest and just tell people the truth even if they get mad you will feel a lot better being honest. If you don’t like something or don’t want to do something is your decision and no one else should change that. If you are always honest then you won’t have any remorse and nothing to feel bad about. Guilt is a horrible feeling that sometimes it takes years to recover from it and if not the truth comes out or you end up telling me the truth because of guilt. In this life if you want to live happy and in peace you must be honest and do things for yourself.

This story teaches us that no matter what age you are you will always have your own decisions and beliefs and people must respect that. Also sometimes adult believe that kids don’t know what is right or wrong and we got to make them do stuff this is not truth because since you’re a small kid you are already creating you own personality and you should never focus a kid to do something he doesn’t want to do. In life sometimes you must be selfish if it requires lying and tell the truth and do what makes you happy.
