“Why Don’t We Complain?” by William F. Buckley, Jr.

In the essay “why don’t we complain” by William F. Buckley I think that it is a very important issue. For example, nowadays we get use to everything and we don’t care if it is right or wrong we just sit down and take it. For example, we never complain for our rights anymore. The only place area that I could think of that really complains is in Hialeah, and the funny part is that most of us think that people that do complain are stupid and are acting wrong and also most people find it embarrassing to be near a person who complains, but that is suppose to be our right. For example, in this essay the author got on a train that it was super hot while it was cold outside which meant that all there had to do was open the windows to let some cold air inside, but no one did anything about it; in fact, the author wanted to say something and everyone grab their newspapers and try to ignore him. Another example that the author use in the essay is that he went to the movies with his wife and the movie was out of focus. The author wanted to get up and tell someone, but the wife told him that it will go away and to stay seated. The whole movie was out of focus and no one bother to complain about something they had paid for. Nowadays we pay for stuff like serve in a restaurant, movie tickets, concerts, an etc and when they are errors or things goes wrong than we complain to each other, but not to complain to make a difference or get our money back. People think that is rude, embarrassing, or wrong when in fact it is your right and the correct thing to do.

I think the author is right and with time this issue is just getting worse. For example, the other day my friend and I went to the mall and he brought a shirt. When we got home he noticed that the shirt had a hole and I was like well just return it and he was like no I hate to return stuff there always give me a problem or it takes to long I am just going to fix it and wear it. The problem with him wasn’t that it takes to long his problem was that he was embarrassed in returning the shirt and that is wrong because we pay for it with our own money, so we got every right to get what we pay for. Back in the days people were more outspoken and fought for their rights, but now a days we have lost that touch and in my opinion it is important that we get it back and start complaining for things that could be changed or things that we got all the right over.
